Inspiration from a Journey to the Sea
A few images from Marc's recent exhibition
at Luther Seminary in St. Paul Minnesota.
September 1 - November 1, 2015
In September 2014 my wife Sonja and I traveled to Europe in celebration of our 25th wedding anniversary. We shared a wonderful trip along the Mediterranean Sea through Spain, France, and Italy.
A significant part of this journey for me was seeing the works of my favorite artists including Chagall, Léger, Matisse, Miró, and Picasso. It was inspiring to see their art and to be where they lived and worked. What a joy to walk the same streets, drink in the same cafés, and paint along the coast of the same glorious sea.
This exhibition represents a small portion of my creative activity from the past year. Most of the images are nonrepresentational. I think of them as melodies; playing with colors, textures, and shapes in the same way a musician might discover a melody on the piano. Some of the images evoked memories or suggested themes to me and they are titled to reflect those feelings.
This show is a celebration of new art and a celebration of new life! It was just one year ago, upon returning from Europe, that Sonja was diagnosed with breast cancer. We are so grateful for the caregivers, friends and family that have helped Sonja become healthy again.
